About me

I am a philosopher based at the Research Section of Aesthetics of the Department of Philosophy, The Jagiellonian University, and Research Section of Theory of New Media Art of the Faculty of Intermedia, The Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts of Krakow. My principal area of academic scrutiny is aesthetics which I interpret as a theoretical area for the exploration of arts (e.g. interpretation of a work of art, art criticism, ontology of art and other areas of interests related to art such as e.g. aesthetic and artistic values, creative and perception processes), also a history of art, specifically in 20th and 21st centuries.

I am Co-founder and Research Editor of the first Polish research video journal Medialica. Multimedia Studies on Humanities (Medialica. Studia Multimedialne z Humanistyki), Research Editor – until March 2024 of Culture and History Journal (Kultura i Historia), and membership in Research Board of the journal Culture and Values Journal (Kultura i Wartości). I am a member of Senate Commission of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts of Krakow (2020-24), Commission for Teaching and Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Krakow Branch, Discipline Council Philosophy in Institute of Philosophy of Jagiellonian University, Collegium Invisibile, Degrees Council of Academy of Fine Art in Krakow, Polish Association of Philosophy, Association for Academic e-learning, Polish Association of Aesthetics, Polish Association for Cultural Studies, International Association of Aesthetics, and I am a mentor of Section of Philosophy of Technique, which is a part of the Student Circle for Philosophy based at the Department of Philosophy of The Jagiellonian University. In 2017 I was awarded Medal of Polish National Education (Medal Komisji Edukacji Narodowej).

I would describe my philosophical enquiries as metaphysical philosophy, because my objective is to understand reality in terms of ontology. I share the view that linguistic concepts are related to reality. I am fully aware that this stance could be challenged if we take under consideration the issues posed by metaphysical philosophy, often questioning the human ability to transcend their minds, and consequently, its justified claims referring to existence of beings beyond their minds. But, when it was clear for me that the phenomenon of being needs to be seen in relation to human activity – even though we neglect the theses quoted above – I started to seek appropriate tools for describing the grounds of existence in any reality, which in my case involves the questions on the existence of the virtual reality.

I am a supporter of the philosophical analyze based on intuition, a priori arguments and modal analysis. In my research I use a priori judgements which originate from Kantian apriori synthetics judgements linked with various aspects of the theory of chaos (theory of systems, theory of bifurcation and catastrophe theory). I often use 0-1 (true – false) judgement values based on rational and intuitive analysis.

I am also interested in interdisciplinary studies, and frequently publish on the questions of aesthetics, philosophy of technology, cognitive studies, art criticism and e-learning.

I am fascinated by technology and the world changing under its influence (New Media Art, Web, VR, artificial intelligence, and robotics, cyborgs). This experience influenced my views on reality. Recently, I have become a futurologist supporting the arguments that the mankind’s future shall be defined by the development of technology, and that its life to come is much more interesting than its present state of existence.

It is my devotion to experiment on remote learning/teaching. I lead classes (lectures, seminars, special discussion seminars) in Academia Electronica in Second Life and AltspaceVR, and also using educational platform of The Jagiellonian University Pegaz (Moodle).

From time to time I plunge into existential craziness (car tours, music concerts, trance music) sharing these addictions with my wife.

My day-to-day life is not free from negligence and faults, but, naturally, I am not a robot 🙂
